Despite the resignation of several MlAs, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Wednesday said that Assembly elections in the State will be held in time and there was no proposal whatsoever to prepone it.
Addressing a Press conference soon after a meeting of the Cabinet, Hooda said Congress was fully poised and in a strong position for Assembly elections slated to be held in October this year.
The Chief Minister also downplayed the exit polls with regard to Haryana, saying each agency which has conducted exit polls has different predictions on it and varies in their results. The final picture would only be clear on May 16 after the counting of the votes. The polls have given 0-2 seats to the Congress in the State.
Asked about Cabinet’s decision on reducing toll tax within the State, Hooda said that the agenda item for the same had been deferred till next Cabinet meeting as model code of conduct is in existence.
On the statement made by Rajya Sabha member Birender Singh about the distribution of tickets in the ensuing Vidhan Sabha elections, Hooda said that the party’s Central Election Committee would only decide about the tickets and none of them were the deciding authorities.
The Chief Minister also ridiculed the allegation levelled by INlD leader Abhay Singh Chautala that the State Government did not get the Development Plan of Gurgaon approved from the National Capital Region (NCR) Planning Board. Hooda said that Development Plans did not need any approval from the NCR Planning Board. “It seems that these leaders do not have proper knowledge of this matter,” he said, adding that the State Government had been approving the Development Plans for the small cities also so as to avoid the setting up of unauthorised colonies and to provide better infrastructure facilities to the migrated population in the urban areas.
Asked about the statement made by former Haryana minister Gopal Kanda over the functioning of the State Government, Hooda said that he was amazed that the minister was saying this after a long tenure of 8-9 years of present State Government. He said that people knew him very well.
