Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Monday strongly objected to the cases being registered against farmers under sedition in Sirsa.
He said the BJP-JJP government is also disobeying the directions of the Supreme Court, by using such serious sections against farmers who are protesting peacefully.
“The Supreme Court itself has objected to the imposition of such sedition sections against those opposing the government. A notice has also been issued to the government for this,” he said.
The Leader of Opposition advised the BJP-JJP coalition government to act as a link between the Union Government and farmers, instead of suppressing the farmer’s movement by charging them under serious sections like sedition.
“Farmers who are protesting on the borders of Haryana are not only from state, but also from other parts of the country and this is why the BJP-JJP government should defend these farmers before the Central Government. Communication should be established with the farmers and the government should come up with a positive solution,” the senior Congress leader said.
Hooda said action should be taken against persons who take law in his own hands but cases like sedition against farmers should be withdrawn immediately.
Notably, Sirsa Police had slapped a sedition charge against protesting farmers after an alleged attack on Haryana Deputy Speaker Ranbir Gangwa’s car on July 11.
