Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has expressed gratitude towards UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram for making announcement in the Parliament that no wealth tax of any kind would be imposed on agricultural land in the country.
Describing it as a historic decision, Bhupinder Singh Hooda said that now it had once again become clear that interests of the farmers were completely safe in the hands of the Congress Government.
Hooda said that with the speech of Union Finance Minister, it had also become amply clear that though the intention was never to impose property tax, but it got inadvertently imposed due to a bill passes in the year 1993.
Only from the technical aspects, the wealth tax on agricultural land adjoining the urban areas got imposed. This never got any attention till recently.
