Former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Tuesday sought dismissal of BJP led State Government in Haryana and imposition of President’s rule over its “failure” to tackle the violence during Jat quota agitation.
Terming the Haryana Government as most “incompetent Government” in the state’s 50-year history, the senior Congress leader also demanded setting up of a panel headed by a sitting Supreme Court judge to inquire into the violence during the Jat quota stir.
“We demand that the State Government be dismissed, state assembly dissolved and President’s rule be imposed in Haryana. In the 50-year history of Haryana, never before have we come across such an incompetent Government, which has failed on all fronts,” said Hooda while addressing a press conference here.
Hooda said, “Whatever happened in Haryana was sad and unfortunate. A judicial commission of inquiry, headed by a sitting judge of the Supreme Court, should be set up to inquire into the incidents of violence during the Jat stir.”
On the arrest warrant issued against his former political advisor Prof Virender after the latter failed to appear before police in a sedition case registered against him in Rohtak during the Jat stir, Hooda said, “He should join investigations. I am a law abiding citizen and I would say this to him.”
Distancing himself from Prof Virender, Hooda went onto say, “Virender was his political advisor but at present he is not…”
When questioned about the audio recordings and videos of various leaders that have surfaced related to Jat agitation, the Congress leader said that an independent inquiry should be conducted into this as the Government cannot conduct inquiry of its own failures.
While Prof Virender and another person was booked by Rohtak Police on February 24 on sedition charges after the duo’s audio clip of a purported conversation between them alleged to incite violence during Jat agitation, BJP leader and former MlA of Chhachhrauli, Roshan lal Arya was booked for his alleged derogatory remarks against the Jat community in a video that went viral on social media.
Hooda alleged that a conspiracy was hatched by BJP and RSS to disturb Haryana’s peace, harmony and brotherhood. They wanted to create a new votebank. An attempt was made to divide people but we will not allow it to happen, he said.
“What was the conspiracy, people need to know. Why is the government hesitating in setting up the judicial commission if it has nothing to hideIJ” he questioned.
lashing out at the Manohar lal Khattar Government, he said, “The State Government had earlier said that the Jat agitation was leaderless. But things got complicated because the government was also leaderless. Had there been leadership even on one side, this situation would not have arisen.”
“30 lives were lost and property worth crores of rupees was damaged during the agitation as the government failed to handle the law and order situation. House of Congress leader and former Minister Geeta Bhukkal was burnt in Jhajjar, while another leader Anand Singh Dangi’s office was set on fire during the stir,” Hooda added.
The former Chief Minister also claimed that before the assembly election in the state in October 2014, BJP had made several promises to people, but they failed to fulfill any of those.
