Hooda asks Central Govt to compensate violence-hit people

Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Monday asked the Centre to offer "adequate" compensation to people affected by violence during the Jat reservation stir in the State.

“I would like to urge the Central Government to provide adequate compensation to people, who have lost their kin and property due to the violence,” Hooda said. He said, “I want to appeal to the people to maintain peace and harmony in Haryana.”

Hooda also asked the Centre to restore peace and harmony in Haryana and said that he will continue with the hunger strike in Rohtak which he had started at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Sunday.

When asked why Haryana, continues to witness protests despite Centre's assurance to give reservation to the Jats, he said, “It was for the State Government to figure out and come up with a solution.”

Asked about the audio clip of his political advisor Professor Virender, who was caught saying the protest was doing well in their area while nothing much was happening in the state “Deswali belt”, Hooda said Prof Virender is being framed into this. The State Government is doing this to frame the Congress and divert people’s attention from their failure,” he alleged.

Meanwhile, Hooda was stopped by security forces at the Tikri borde (between Delhi and Rohtak) while proceeding towards strife-torn Rohtak town on Monday. Following this, he came back to Jantar Mantar in Delhi to continue his hunger strike. A day before, he was also assured of all assistance from the State Government to go to Rohtak.

The senior Congress leader had earlier said, “I would like to go to Haryana as the state is being destroyed. They (State Government) had restricted me. But how long I will remain away from my peopleIJ Hence, I have decided to return to the state, where I will continue with the fast.”
