Hockey player Rajbir Kaur levels allegation against AAP

Indian hockey’s ‘golden girl’ Rajbir Kaur on Monday raised a banner of revolt against her Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for denying ticket to “well recognised woman in the world” to contest 2017 polls. Scoring a goal against AAP, Kaur alleged sale of tickets by AAP leadership.

Kaur, Indian women hockey team’s former captain and an Arjuna Awardee, had joined AAP and was hopeful of being fielded as a party candidate from Jalandhar Cantt Assembly segment.

AAP, a day before, announced car dealer HS Walia’s candidature from Jalandhar Cantt. Walia is Jalandhar Car Dealer Association president.

Supporting Kaur are nearly 11 other aspirants from the segment, who have been alleging that the deal had been made for Rs two crore with the help of a senior leader, close to party chief Arvind Kejriwal.

The disgruntled leaders on Monday also held a meeting, setting 48-hour deadline for Kejriwal to take back Walia’s ticket, who was described as “a controversial car dealer also involved in illegal business of finance”.

Disappointed over fielding a “person with less status and standard” than her, Kaur slammed the party leadership for “selling” tickets and not giving it to “deserving candidates”. She is now planning a meeting of disgruntled leaders of the party who have been denied tickets.

Coming out in the open, Kaur “posted” her reaction on the social media saying that her “believes (read beliefs) and trust in Aam Aadmi Party have been shattered”.

“AAP is believed to be known for its integrity and promises but none has been shown in the recent activity where a person with less status and standard than me have achieved the Jalandhar Cantt Ticket,” she stated adding that the “person who doesn't even belong to Cantt constituency have received it. I'm well recognized woman in the world”.

Justifying her candidature, Kaur maintained that she belonged to the “Cantt area”.

“People are well aware of me and my leadership here. I fail to understand the reasons he is chosen over me…My achievements and records have been set in the history of this country and I still can't understand how a person with such less qualities have surpassed me,” she stated.

She added, “Well I think only one quality he managed to show is his hands full of money and I believe AAP, whose main agenda is corruption free country, is none different than other political parties whose leaders are corrupted.”

Concluding, she said that her support to the AAP was “because we want good change for our people. I stuck with the party even after my husband Gurmail Singh's services were taken from him right after I joined the party. We were ready to give this party our best but today, the party has shown they also are ruled by people who are selling tickets and not giving to deserving candidate”.
