Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh has called a meeting of Congress legislature Party (ClP) on May 6 at his official residence at Oak Over.
Industries and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mukesh Agnihotri on Thursday said that the meeting has been convened to discuss various issues and policies of Congress in the wake of upcoming Assembly elections in the State.
The meeting gains significance as main rival BJP has been in the process of forming its policy for the assembly elections and BJP Chief Amit Shah has been on a two-day visit to Himachal Pradesh.
BJP is looking quite aggressive after its splendid success in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand elections and the party’s cadre in Himachal Pradesh appears to have been re-energised after the rally of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Shimla in the last week of April.
The ClP meeting is important as Congress is likely to discuss its election strategy. The party seemingly suffered a setback after investigation in a corruption and disproportionate assets case picked up pace in the recent months.
May 6 is also fixed for next hearing in the CBI court against Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and Congress is likely to ponder over all options for the next elections.
Though Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh has been continuously terming the CBI and ED actions to be politically motivated but there is no doubt that emerging of these investigations have forced Congress to explore new strategy.
