High drama at Municipal Corporation

High drama prevailed at the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh on Tuesday when its junior cashier accused a person of attempting to snatch his money, who, in contrast, claimed accusations to be “false”.

Nawal Kumar, who is posted as a junior cashier at the MCC booking counter, maintained that a group of seven to eight persons entered the building and attacked him while he was going to submit the day’s collection amounting Rs 60,000 to his senior. He said that they also attempted to snatch the money from him. He said when he shouted for help, his colleagues reached on the spot and the accused sped away from there. Meanwhile, one of the attackers has been nabbed who was identified as Ranjit Thakur. On the other hand, Ranjit, in his complaint to the police, alleged that Nawal was trying to register a false case against him.

Ranjit, who runs a business of second hand car selling at Sector-7, said that he sent his peon (Sita Ram) to MCC office to book space for the car bazaar on November 1 as he had to leave to Kerala. “When I came back on Tuesday from Kerala, Sita Ram told me that the cashier at booking window took Rs 500 apart from the booking money, which he did not mention in the receipt,” he added.  “Today, when I went to ask Nawal about Rs 500 which he had taken apart from the booking amount, he started abusing me and also beating me at MCC office,” claimed Ranjit. UT DSP Ashish Kapoor said that a complaint on the statement of Ranjit Thakur was registered.
