A special play ‘Stone Soup for the Soul’ will be enacted by children with hearing and speech impairment at Tagore Theatre here on December 18 and 19.
Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademi will stage the play “Stone Soup for the Soul” which will be performed by the students of “Vatika Special School” - a school for children with hearing and speech impairment.
The story is about a traveler who brings together a broken, sad and poor village by cooking 'stone soup'. When asked by the facilitators what they wanted the play to be about, they said that the play incorporates some basic signs and lots of laughter, offering the audiences a peek into the world of these 30 kids.
A spokesperson of CSNA said that the play is an outcome of a 3 weeks long theatre workshop held for the students of “Vatika Special School”. During the workshop the facilitators, realised that even as artists, they had been very dependent on speech and hearing. So while they facilitated the children with hearing disabilities to move and express with their bodies, the children, in return taught them sign language with a lot of care and patience.
