The Health Ministry has approved 1,100 new posts to be filled by the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER). The decision came after seeing the condition of this premier institute, ailing under pressure due to staff crunch.
Ministry has taken into consideration the 27 per cent quota under OBC reservation implemented for the MD/MS course, while creating vacancy to maintain the parity for the students falling under general category. The vacant posts have been created for two additional professors, 60 assistant professors, 70 senior residents, 70 junior lab technicians and around 550 nursing staffs.
To ease the continuously rising workload of PGI, due to a constant increase in the number of patient visiting the institute some other vacancies have been announced, application for which will be served once the respective departments analyse and send back their requirement to the human recruitment department. PGI has issued an office order in this regard.
The PGI authorities have been demanding an addition to the already existing work force for sometime. The constantly increasing work pressure was having a toll on both the doctors and non-medical staff working at the institute. The creation of these posts will help in the smooth functioning of the institute, said official sources.
