The Punjab & Haryana High Court on Tuesday upheld the decision of BJP's Government in Haryana reducing the retirement age of State Government employees from 60 to 58 years. The court passed the orders after dismissing a bunch of petitions filed by the employees against the State Government's decision of reducing the retirement age. With this, the State Government employees in Haryana would now retire at the age of 58 years.
In the petition challenging the decision of current Haryana Government, it was further stated that the retirement age of IAS officers, judicial officers and the teachers of Government-aided colleges of the State is still 60 years and that is why the decision to increase the retirement age from other employees from 58 to 60 years was taken in August last year.
The Manohar lal-led Haryana Government had in November reduced the retirement age of Government employees from 60 to 58 years reversing the decision of previous Congress-led Bhupinder Singh Hooda Government in the State. Ahead of October 15 Assembly elections in the state, the Hooda Government had announced the populist decision to raise the superannuation age for the Government staff by two years.
