HC rejects anticipatory bail plea of Salwinder Singh

A month after a stay was put on the arrest of Punjab Police officer Salwinder Singh, the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Friday refused his anticipatory bail plea.

Claiming false implication in the case, the infamous police officer had approached High Court to escape arrest, after his anticipatory bail plea was rejected by Gurdaspur Additional Sessions Judge Kamaljit lamba. Turning down Salwinder’s anticipatory bail, Gurdaspur court had observed that his custodial interrogation was required.

Counsel for Salwinder Singh, Maninder Singh Bajwa had contended that the petitioner has been falsely implicated in this case on the basis of a false complaint. He had based his claim on the clean chit given to the officer after the enquiry in his first complaint. He had contended that after a lapse of two years, the complainant again raised the same complaint and the probe found the officer guilty. Former SP of Punjab, Salwinder Singh is an accused in a case of rape and corruption that was registered against him on August 3 on the complaint of a Gurdaspur resident, who had alleged that he exploited his wife physically for dropping charges of rape against the complainant. The complainant had also accused Salwinder Singh of asking Rs 50 thousand as bribe from him.

The complainant had taken his complaint to Punjab Chief Minister during the Sangat Darshan and the probe was conducted thereafter. The case was registered against him, after a probe conducted by Pathankot SP (Headquarters) GS Khurana found him guilty. The probe had found mobile call records between complainant victim woman and the officer.
