Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday directed judicial magistrates across Haryana to monitor and submit reports on investigations being carried out by the Police in 2120 FIRs registered in connection with Jat reservation stir in February.
Setting a month’s deadline for submission of reports, the Division Bench of Justice SS Saron and Justice Gurmit Ram has made it clear that the High Court will keep an eye on the probe by examining the judicial reports.
This is, perhaps, the first time that High Court has intended to keep direct vigil on the police investigation on more than 2100 FIRs in a single go.
Haryana police had registered 2120 FIRs against the miscreants during the Jat reservation stir. The police has arrested around 470 people in these cases.
Setting down the procedure, High Court directed the State of Haryana to submit its report in all the FIRs to the illaqua magistrates. The Bench added the magistrates “shall then make a report of investigation and submit it to the Sessions Judges, who shall forward it to the High Court on the adjourned date”.
During the course of hearing, the amicus curiae Anupam Gupta said that Parkash Singh committee report had lent more credence to the allegation of sexual exploitation of women commuters in Murthal.
Adjourning the matter for July 4, High Court has directed for placing of reports before the next date.
