HC allows bail to Sapna Chaudhary

Giving relief to the Haryanvi folk singer Sapna Chaudhary, Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday allowed interim bail for her in case of her arrest in the matter.

The singer had approached the court in the case registered against her under the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act around two months back.

In her petition through senior advocate P.S. Hundal, she contended that she had never made any attempt to hurt feelings of anyone. Counsel for the petition contended that the FIR was registered against the petitioner on the basis of composition, which has been sung by artists for decades.

He asserted, the composition sung by her was composed more than five decades ago and repeatedly sung by number of artists. The singing of the Ragni in question was never objected to by any member of the society.

He told the court that the petitioner had tendered an unconditional apology through affidavit to assuage the feeling of any intentional hurt.
