Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala on Sunday said that Haryana Agricultural University should play a role in marketing the farmers’ crops so that their income can be enhanced.
“With the help of better technology, marketing and research, the condition of farmers and farming activities in the State can be improved and for this, institutions like Haryana Agricultural University can play an important role,” he said while addressing a gathering during Farmers’ Day programme held at varsity’s Indira Gandhi Auditorium.
Dushyant honoured farmers of all 22 districts and unveiled a nine-foot-tall copper statue of the farmers’ idol and former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh at the university campus, also inspected the stubble management plant. He also announced Rs 31 lakh for research work (R&D) at the University.
“Today, our farmers should be facilitated to compete in global competition. If farmers’ products are sold in Delhi-NCR market, agriculture activities can be made fruitful,” he said.
He said that if technology and research facilities are provided, the state’s farmer can surpass the farmers of all other States. “We have seen this in the past. When the green revolution came in Punjab, the white revolution came in Gujarat, the blue revolution came in Andhra Pradesh, but Haryana became the first State to benefit from these three revolutions,” he said.
Expressing happiness over that women farmers are also contributing to the State's economy by adopting progressive attitude through farming, animal husbandry and self-help groups, Dushyant advised the HAU authorities to encourage use of jute bags and file covers made by women of self-help groups.
