Haryana's first open jail to be set up in Ambala

Haryana's first open jail will be set up in Ambala and it will have “independent accommodations” for the inmates.

Director General (Prisons) Yashpal Singhal, while talking to the mediapersons here on Monday said the blueprint of the state's first open jail has almost been finalised.

This jail would be different to some extent from the open prisons of other states. There would be minimum security in the open jail where inmates with good behaviour would be accommodated, said the DGP (Prisons).

He said that the inmates would be provided with independent accommodations in the open jail. Singhal also said that Jail Department has allotted the work of installation of jammers in three jails of the state, including Sonepat and Rohtak, to a firm and the work in this regard would be started soon. Jammers will be installed in jails in the wake of increasing incidents of cell phones getting slipped into prisons in Haryana, he added.
