Protesting against police failure in tracing a missing woman even after ten days, kin of the woman along with villagers on Wednesday blocked the Rohtak-Jhajjar highway outside Dighal village for over two hours. The protesters sat on the middle of the road and shouted slogans against Haryana Police.
The protesters disrupted the vehicular traffic completely taking a toll on motorists who had to choose alternate routes to reach their destination. The protesting villagers were persuaded to lift the blockade following assurance by Jhajjar Police Chief that sincere efforts would be made to trace the missing woman.
The protesters have also threatened the police authorities that they would not hesitate to block the highway again if the missing woman is not recovered within 24 hours.
Balwan Singh of Dighal village told media persons that he had married off his daughter to Rajender Singh of Bhiwani in 2003. Though she gave birth to two sons but her-in-law did not stop harassing her for bringing more dowry, he alleged.
“It was August 17 last when I got information that my daughter went missing under mysterious circumstances from the house in Bhiwani. I along with my kin immediately went to Bhiwani and lodged a complaint with the police which has so far failed in searching her,” said Balwan.
“In the given situation, we do not have other option but to stage a dharna on the highway to bring the issue into the notice of higher police authorities,” said Balwan.
Beri Police Station in-charge on getting information rushed to the spot and tried to persuade the protesters to clear the road but could not succeed.
The protesters carried on their agitation stating that they wanted Jhajjar SP to hear their problem. Thereafter, the SP reached the spot and assured them to talk to the Bhiwani Police for quick action into the case.
