Chaudhary Bansi lal University, Bhiwani, has decided to drop 15 regular holidays, including government holidays and jayantis, from its list of holidays.
The decision was taken by the Executive Council of the university at its 11th meeting held on Saturday. This decision would benefit the students with their studies.
Under the guidelines of the University Grants Commission, classes should be held for at least 90 days in each semester in all universities, and Chaudhary Bansi lal University is following this rule.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. S.K. Gakhar, keeping in view the interests of the students, the jayantis of great personalities would be celebrated as festivals which would enable the students to understand them and follow their teachings in their lives.
While other universities have declared 27 holidays, excluding Saturdays and Sundays, Chaudhary Bansi lal University has declared only 16 holidays, excluding Sundays. However, Saturday is will be a holiday for the non-teaching staff in the university whereas teaching work would continue smoothly on Saturdays.
The jayantis and festivals falling on Sundays are celebrated by the university one day earlier so that the students could be apprised of the achievements related to their lives, Prof Gakhar added.
