Haryana urges people not to use fire crackers during marriages

With pollution level increasing in the State, Haryana Government has urged the people not to use fire crackers during marriage functions and other celebrations as this not only spread pollution but could also result in accidents.

Due to bursting of firecrackers, poisonous and dangerous gases like carbon monoxide, sulfur-dioxide and heavy metal particles released in the atmosphere which also cause noise pollution, said a spokesman of Haryana State Pollution Control Board.

He said that with the use of fire crackers, there is always a danger of erupting fire incidents in the houses and the possibility of accidents like injury to eyes and skin.

The release of dangerous gases could also result in various fatal diseases like kidney failure, heart attack and cancer. Not only this, the burning of fire crackers also disrupt the peace of humans and animals both, he added.

Notably, major cities in Haryana continue to suffer due to deterioration in air quality.

As per latest available data with Central Pollution Control Board,  Faridabad and Gurgaon in NCR continue to suffer due to air pollutants in ‘severe’ range. The air quality index reported pollution levels at 486 (PM 2.5 particulate matters less than 2.5 microns) in Faridabad and 450 in Gurgaon earlier this month. Any reading between 400 and 500 on the national air quality index means the air is severely polluted.

Other cities in Haryana also reported high concentration of PM 10- (particulate matters with diameter of 10 microns or less) and PM2.5 (particulate matters less than 2.5 microns)-form of air pollution, which can cause severe health problems.
