Haryana to use iPhone to check female foeticide

To ensure effective implementation of Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Act and Pre-conception and Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques (PC and PNDT) Act by using latest technology in the State, Haryana Government has decided to adopt a unique system under which iPhone would be provided to decoy customers to keep a track on his movement.

The State Government has also decided that complete data base including phone number, address and email id of state authorities of neighboring states like Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan and  Uttar Pradesh would be compiled in next three days and would be provided to all Deputy Commissioners, Superintendent of Police and CMOs so as to assist them in conducting interstate raids to nab those violating the provisions of MTP and PC and PNDT Act.

“The new system would significantly help the state authorities to nab those involved in the business of illegal sex determination and female foeticide as the movement of the decoy customer could be tracked easily through the iPhone, said Rakesh Gupta,  Additional Principal Secretary to Chief Minister. Gupta reviewed the implementation of  MTP and  PC and PNDT Act and  functioning of  power utilities with the Deputy Commissioners and Superintendent of Police through video conferencing on Friday.

While reviewing the district wise progress of implementation of MTP and PC and PNDT Act, he directed the district administration, police and health department to work in close coordination for the successful implementation on these Acts.

With an aim of improving the sex ratio in the state, Haryana Government had in May sought help of neighbouring Punjab, Rajasthan, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh to curb sex determination tests. In separate letters addressed to his counterparts in neighboring states, Chief Minister Manohar lal Khattar had urged them to initiate necessary steps so that sex determination tests could be curbed in the region.

Haryana, which had the worst sex ratio among states in the 2011 Census, is aiming to achieve the target of more than 950 females per 1,000 males in the sex ratio at Birth (SRB) by the end of year 2016.

The state had crossed the 900-mark in sex ratio for the first time in 10 years in December last year.

Gupta said that 31 FIRs have so far been registered by the police in district Panipat since the beginning of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign which is highest as compared to other districts.
