The Haryana Government has decided to set up 15 integrated solid waste management clusters to deal with solid waste in urban areas. Out of these, electricity would be generated from solid waste in three clusters, and manure from the remaining 12 clusters, said an official spokesman.

In this series, the solid waste management plant being set up at Faridabad at a cost of Rs330 crore will generate electricity from 1,236 tonnes of waste received from Gurugram and Faridabad every day. Its capacity would increase to 2,104 tonnes by 2035, he said.

The spokesman said two contract agencies had participated in the tender process for Faridabad plant and qualified the technical bid. The department has finalised the cost per unit with both agencies for waste lifting and generating electricity from it. Eco Green Energy Private limited quoted a rate of Rs10.91 per unit which was finalised at Rs10.40 per unit after discussion. The contractor would collect solid waste in separate containers from houses in Faridabad and Gurugram and supply it to the solid waste management plant, which will be used for generating electricity, he said.
