With a view to mitigating the sufferings of the people affected by the unprecedented floods in Jammu & Kashmir, the Haryana Government will send 10 electrical vertical pumps of five cusecs capacity to Srinagar to drain the flooded areas.
This is in addition to the earlier financial assistance of Rs 10 crore, medicines worth Rs 50 lakh, 50,000 blankets and food sent to speed up the relief operations in the affected areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
Haryana Additional Chief Secretary and Financial Commissioner, Revenue and Disaster Management, PK Gupta said that the state government has responded promptly to the help sought by Chief Secretary, J&K to provide pumps for draining the flooded areas.
Gupta said that accordingly directions were issued to send electrical vertical pumps with adequate accessories such as delivery pipe and the technical staff for operation of the pumps. These will be dispatched on Monday morning. After the flood has receded, most of the areas in Kashmir are still under water due to uneven terrain, he added.
He said that Haryana Chief Secretary Shakuntla Jakhu has further assured more support to the Government of J & K as and when required.
