Haryana Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister, OP Dhankar on Wednesday said peri-urban agriculture will be promoted in areas adjoining national Capital Delhi and other major cities of the State.
The issue has been discussed with Union Agriculture Minister and officers of the Union Agriculture Ministry, said the Dhankar while presiding over a meeting with Department’s officers to chalk out measures to increase the income of farmers and organise the AgriSummit in the State.
Dhankar urged the officials to make farmers aware about the modern farming techniques so that they could avail their benefits.
He said fresh fruits, vegetables, milk, fish and other products could be provided through peri-urban agriculture to the areas of the State adjoining Delhi.
The Minister said farmers would have to make farming demand-based and carry out farming by understanding the need of the big cities. This will ensure more profit to farmers, he said.
During the meeting, discussions were held to organise a three-day Mela in March on the pattern of Agrileadership Summit organised last year and to make it farmer-based. The State Government decided to ensure participation of farmers from all over the country so that other farmers could take benefit of their experience.
