Haryana Government has decided to organise week-long events on “freedom from open defecation” from August 9 to 15 under Swach Bharat Mission-Gramin in the State.
“During the week, all districts would take up mass mobilisation events. These will include rallies and human chains in favour of “freedom from open defecation” involving ODF champions, opinion leaders, youth, women, children etc,” said a spokesman of Haryana Development and Panchayat Department.
Giving details, he said that special events would be organised at district, taluka and block levels to honour local sanitation champions and screening of films and success stories for spreading awareness in the community.
Speeches, quiz and sports activities would be organised for school students and youth around the theme of Swachhta. Political leaders, eminent personalities and local celebrities would be involved in these events, said the spokesman.
He said that mass mobilisation events like rallies, human chains in favour of “freedom from open defecation” involving ODF champions, opinion leaders, youth, women, children at district level would be organised on August 9 in the state.
Apart from this, activities to be organised at gram panchayat level would include community meetings for collective community behavior change, participatory rural appraisal, social mapping etc to ensure sustainability of ODF on August 10.
Also, gram sabha meetings on sustainability of ODF and SlWM and video documentary on success stories would be held on August 11 and strengthening of the existing nigrani samitis comprising women, youth and children would be done, for formation of village cleanliness committee on August 12, he added.
The spokesman said activities to be organised at gram panchayat level and school level would include demonstration on hand washing with soap after defecation, before and after handing child faces, and safe storage and handling of drinking water in schools and anganwadi centers.
Speeches, quizs, slogan writing competitions on sanitation in schools would be organised on August 13, inter-personal communication and mobilization for ODF plus and distribution of brochures, pamphlets, booklets with general and technical information would be organised onAugust 14. District and block level exhibitions and jhankis on sanitation would be organised on August 15, the spokesman added.
