With an aim to provide improved healthcare services to the deprived and poor people living in urban areas of Haryana, the State Government has decided to organise urban health nutrition day and special outreach camps in all districts.

An active participation of Urban local Bodies would be ensured for the success of these  programmes under which  detailed information about availability of healthcare services would be disseminated among the people, said Haryana Health Minister, Anil Vij on Monday.

He said that this would benefit slum dwellers of remote areas. Auxiliary Nurse Midwives   and Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) would be trained to provide people with better and more healthcare services, said he.

Under Urban Health Mission, special focus is on the health of urban poor population living in slums and other vulnerable population including slum dwellers, rickshaw pullers, construction workers, street children and homeless.  In order to provide adequate healthcare services to such people, community based mechanism would be prepared where participation of representatives of Urban local Bodies would be ensured. In rural areas, healthcare services are provided under Rural Health Mission, the Minister said.

Under urban healthcare delivery system, all health care services are provided by urban Primary Health Centers. In urban areas, a health center is functioning  for a population of about 50,000. These health centers are being run in slums or near them, within a radius of half km, added Vij.
