Haryana Government has accorded approval for installation of 10 lakh smart meters in five districts of the State.

For this, a Memorandum of Understanding between Energy Efficiency Services limited (EESl) and Haryana Power Distribution Utilities would be signed soon, said an official spokesman.

He said that the Chief Minister Manohar lal has taken a decision in this regard to improve the financial condition of power distribution companies, to encourage energy conservation and to overcome the problems arising in relation to the payment of electricity bills.

In the first phase, old meters of five districts namely Panipat, Karnal, Panchkula, Faridabad and Gurugram would be replaced with smart meters by EESl.

Under the UDAY scheme initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, 10000 old meters were replaced in district Panipat as a pilot project. After the success of this, now the scheme would be implemented in other districts of the state, the spokesman said.

He said that these smart meters would be GPRS equipped. Installation of these smart meters along with its associated GPRS system would enable electricity distribution companies to collect real time data on usage.

Under the ambitious ‘Mhara Gaon Jagmag Gaon’ Scheme initiated by the present government in 2015, 400 feeders of 2,310 villages are getting round the clock power supply including district Panchkula, Ambala, Faridabad, Gurugram and Sirsa, the spokesman said.

Now from July 1 onwards, rural domestic consumers of district Fatehabad would also get 24 hour power supply.
