Haryana Government has decided to honour those Gram panchayats in the State which ensure enrolment of all children in the village in Government schools.

Announcing this, Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma on Friday expressed appreciation for the decision of gram panchayat Bhainswal (Sonipat) to enrol all children in the village in Government schools instead of private schools.

This village is renowned for being the native village of Olympian Yogeshwar Dutt, said the Minister.

Sharma said that the State Government is laying emphasis on quality education in all government schools in Haryana. Apart from introducing monthly examinations for students of Classes I to VIII from July, 2015 onwards, moral education is also being imparted to the students to inculcate cultural values in them, he added.

He said that the level of access to elementary, school and higher education in the state is very high, and it is much better than the national average. Haryana has a primary school within radius of about one km, high school within radius of 2.08 km and senior secondary school within radius of 2.7 km. There were 8,898 Government primary schools, 2,417 government secondary schools, 1,387 Government high schools and 1,871 Government senior secondary schools in the state till March 2016, he added.

The Minister said that government teachers are equipped with academic qualifications, and they are kept updated with new techniques through short-term courses from time-to-time. He also lauded the efforts of those government teachers who go door-to-door to encourage parents to enroll their wards in Government schools.
