Haryana to hold State event to bring cow lovers together

Published on:

The Manohar lal Khattar Government in Haryana is taking its love for the cow to a whole new level.Known for its love for the animal, the BJP-led Haryana Government is all geared up to hold a State-level event to bring together cow lovers or gau sevaks from across the State.

The State-level function would be organised in Jind district in November to raise awareness about cow protection and its importance. The grand event to be organised on the first anniversary of the constitution of Haryana Gau Seva Ayog in the State, is likely to be attended by 20,000 gau sevaks from the State.

At the event, the Haryana Government would also apprise people about the initiatives taken during its tenure to protect the bovine species.

From enforcing a strict Act to keep a check on cow slaughter to setting up a special gau rakshak task force and even appointing a senior IPS officer to monitor cases of cow smuggling in Haryana, the State Government is sparing no efforts for cow protection.

“With completion of one year to the constitution of Haryana Gau Seva Ayog in November, a State-level function would be organised on November 8 in Jind to spread awareness about importance of cow and its protection,” said Bhani Ram Mangla, chairman of Gau Sewa Aayog while talking to The Pioneer.

Around 20,000 gau sevaks from across the State would attend the mega event. Gau sevaks from other States would also be invited to attend the function. Haryana Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki and Chief Minister Manohar lal Khattar would also attend this event, said he.

Mangla said, “There are around 100 gaushalas in the State and we would also write to them about the event. We would ensure massive participation to make this event successful.”

“At the function, the State Government would put forth a list of series of proposals implemented in Haryana for conservation and promotion of indigenous cattle, besides its protection,” he added.

The State Government had last year imposed a complete ban on the sale of beef in any form in the State and had also made cow slaughter punishable by up to 10-year imprisonment and fine up to Rs 1 lakh following the passage of Haryana Gauvansh Sanrakshan and Gausamvardhan Act 2015.

The Government is also developing an e-pashuhaat web portal with a view to give the information about murrah buffalos, Hariana cows and to highlight various aspects of livestock.

With its focus on issues like cow protection, Gita and Saraswati River, the Manohar lal Khattar Government has remained under attack from the Opposition and social outfits for pursuing the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) agenda of “Hindutva”.

The BJP Government had last year also announced to give each cow in the state, a 12-digit unique identification number and an ID card as tags with an aim to establish their identity and to provide benefits under various government schemes.

The Government’s decision to introduce ‘special identification tags’ for state cows, was also criticized by many, particularly on the social networking websites with jokes going around anticipating cow security to be better than women security in Haryana.
