In a major decision, Haryana Government has decided to provide the benefit of Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) to every person in the State.
About 1.56 crore persons in the age group of 18-70 years including members belonging to scheduled caste and those living Below Poverty line (BPl) would be eligible to have Rs12 credited into their Adhaar seeded “Jan Dhan Account” under the scheme, said Haryana Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Kavita Jain on Thursday.
To avail the benefits, the public will have to simply subscribe at least once to PMSBY through their Adhaar seeded Jan Dhan Accounts in any bank. The State Government would refund Rs12 based on the information sent by the banks, even if the subscriber would not apply for refund, she said.
Each bank would send the demand to Social Justice and Empowerment Department, which would act as nodal department for this purpose.
The Minister said that the PMSBY would cover each person for accidental death or disability to the tune of Rs2 lakh. A sum of Rs18.72 crore would be spent under the scheme.
She said that for the heads of BPl families in the age group of 18-50 years, the Government will provide the premium to the tune of Rs330 under Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) which would entail them to the benefit of Rs2 lakh on natural or accidental death of the head of the BPl family. This will cover 12.33 lakh heads of BPl families below 50 years at a cost of Rs40.69 crores.
This scheme would also be implemented through the Direct Benefit Transfer through banks into the account of the beneficiary by reimbursement of the amount which the bank charges the BPl applicant for the PMJJBY, said she.
Jain said that the Government had decided that whoever is covered under the PMJJBY could also be covered under PMSBY and avail benefits of both accident insurance of Rs4 lakh and Natural Death insurance of Rs2 lakh and both the schemes would be linked to the same Jan Dhan Account. In case a person has Rupay Card in the Jan Dhan Account, a sum of
Rs1 lakh will be available as accident assurance in addition. The Minister added that it was decided that the Rajiv Gandhi Parivar Bima Yojna (RGPBY) would be tapered off within six months and anyone who has a Jan Dhan Account and covered in PMSBY and PMJJBY, would not be covered under RGPBY.
