Haryana may emerge as country’s leading knowledge State by promoting centers of excellence and industrial development in several sectors including electronics, agriculture, food processing and healthcare, said a study done by industry body Assocham and Frost & Sullivan.

The study stressed upon the need to explore new avenues for investments in electronic component and manufacturing services as the State is a home to numerous small, medium and large electronics units operating across electronics system design and manufacturing (ESDM) space. The study, Haryana: Emerging as the pioneer knowledge State of India, jointly conducted by Assocham and global consulting firm Frost & Sullivan, was jointly released by DS Rawat, national secretary general of Assocham along with VG Ramakrishnan, Managing Director, South Asia, Frost & Sullivan here on Tuesday.

Clusters for electronic components, lED lighting, medical electronics are some of the high opportunity areas for Haryana, suggested the study. “Besides, given Haryana’s close proximity to chip design, assembly test mark and packaging (ATMP) facilities can be set up and the companies can avail incentives for the same under the new modified special incentive package scheme (MSIPS),” it added.

There is an urgent need to improve the quality of public education system by increasing the number of good quality higher education institutions across Haryana on the basis of public-private partnership (PPP) mode, the study added. Tourism, food processing, automotive industry, footwear and accessories, textiles and garments, petrochemicals and electronics are certain untapped sectors critical for Haryana’s overall growth and development, it said.

The study has suggested the state to establish cold chains, provide pre-cooling facilities to farmers as a service, cold chains in terminal markets and improving the retail marketing arrangements on a priority basis.
