Haryana Director General of Police, B.S. Sandhu on Saturday said two special task force squads would be created to control crime and drug abuse in the NCR area and the areas adjoining the borders with Punjab.

Comprising two police officers each of the level of SP, these squads would work under the supervision of Inspector General of Police.

Sandhu said that a Cyber Police Station would be set up in Panchkula to effectively control cyber crime. Specialists would be recruited through outsourcing for the cyber crime system.

Besides, noose will be tightened around those indulging in drug abuse and overloading vehicles.

Regarding the cracker-type sound made by motorcycle riders on the road, he said such vehicles would be challaned and impounded. Effective steps would be taken to ensure compliance with the traffic rules.

The DGP said modern weapons and equipment would be provided to police personnel to further improve the functioning of the force. Efforts are also being made to modernise the control rooms and more police stations at the sub-division level.

He said that Operation Durga, launched in the state to provide safe and crime-free environment to women, had brought encouraging results. There has been decrease in the number of cases of snatching, eve-teasing and other minor crimes. All such cases would be reviewed at the police headquarters on May 7.

"Draft has been prepared for necessary amendment to the rules for using more than one beacon of different colours on police vehicles and the matter would be discussed with the authorities concerned," he added.

A ‘Mitra Kaksh’ (Friends Room) would be set up outside every police station to develop friendly relations between the people and the police. Services such as issuing character certificate and passport verification etc would be provided online in this room.

"Efforts are being made to provide proper guidance to the police personnel to boost their morale and to meet the shortage of vehicles. Four vehicles each have been provided in every district and special focus would be laid on meeting the shortage in the next financial year," Sandhu added.
