Haryana to conduct survey to give ownership rights to shopkeepers

Published on:

Haryana Government has decided to conduct a survey for giving ownership rights to those shopkeepers or tenants who have taken any property on lease or on rent from the local Bodies Department for about 30 to 40 years. After conducting survey, the ownership rights would be given to the shopkeeper or tenant concerned on market rate or collector rate, said Haryana Urban local Bodies Minister Kavita Jain on Wednesday.

The State Government’s decision is aimed at raising its revenue besides disposing of cases pending on this issue in various Courts. While talking to the mediapersons here, she said that a State level Committee would be constituted for this purpose which would assess whether ownership rights should be given on collector rate or market rate. This assessment is necessary as market rate is less than collector rate at some places.

The Minister said that Chief Minister Manohar lal has given his approval for this decision which would benefit a large number of people in urban areas of the State. Following the provision of ownership rights to shopkeepers or tenants, matters pending in various courts would also be disposed of.

She said that the government would earn a huge amount of revenue with this decision. Currently, the local Bodies earn very less revenue from such properties. She said that shopkeepers and tenants have been raising demand for ownership rights for the last one-and-a-half decade. The previous Government had constituted a committee for this purpose, but no meeting of this committee was held.
