Haryana Government has decided to adopt a multi-pronged strategy to curb and prevent drug abuse.
“The State Government has decided to make police action against suppliers of drugs more effective and strict, besides creating awareness against drug abuse with the assistance of social organisation and volunteers,” said Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Krishan Kumar, while speaking at a function on the occasion of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in Ambala.
The Minister said that the State Government has already started the process of constituting special teams for this purpose.
He said that while Punjab had been affected by the evil of drug abuse, the situation in Haryana is still largely under control.
The Minister also urged the youth to stay away drugs and motivate others to also stay away from drugs. Emphasising that use of drugs is not a part of the Indian culture, he said that the Government and administration are making efforts to prevent drug abuse.
However, the efforts of the people and the society are also required to end this evil from its roots, he added.
On the occasion, the Minister felicitated organisation, officers and employees who have made significant contribution towards curbing drug abuse.
