Vehicle owners in Haryana would now breathe easy with the Haryana Transport department starting a series of steps to facilitate registration of new vehicles.
Ashima Brar, Transport Commissioner, said that to bring more transparency in the system, ‘acknowledgment system’ has been introduced through SMS to the owner of vehicles regarding their deposit of fee for registration certificates of personal or commercial vehicles in the State. At present, there are 65 lakh registered vehicles in the State and around 7 lakh new vehicles are registered every year.
85 percent of the total new registered vehicles are of personal category and only 15 percent vehicles are registered under commercial category.
“To avoid standing in the queues at Regional Transport Authority (RTA) or SDM offices, most of the vehicle owners used to take the services of middlemen to get Registration Certificates of their vehicles. But now owners of the vehicle will get instant acknowledgement of their fee deposit for the RC of their vehicle on their cell phone immediately, hence will be able to know the difference between what they paid and the actual amount deposited for RC of their vehicles”, said Brar. She said the practice will curb malpractices of middlemen.
Brar added that the same service will be extended to customers about their prepared of RC and the date of dispatching of RC from RTA.
"Our department will inform the customers regarding prepared RC and the date of dispatching the RC to the customers, so that customers may not get harassed at the RTA to know about their current status of their RCs.
