Haryana seeks Goyal's intervention in power supply cut

Published on:

Haryana Power Minister Harmohinder Singh Chattha on Tuesday sought intervention of Union Minister of State for Power, Coal and New and Renewable Energy, Piyush Goyal to resolve the issue of suspension of power supply to Haryana by Adani Power ltd  and Costal Gujarat Power limited (CGPl) which were supplying 1,424 MW and 400 MW respectively to Haryana.

Chattha while speaking in the conference of Power Ministers chaired by Piyush Goyal said that Haryana is facing a severe drought due to extremely deficient rainfall this season. The demand of electricity has increased on an unprecedented scale. Unfortunately, Adani Power ltd  and Costal Gujarat Power limited (CGPl) have suspended or reduced their generation to Haryana State since  August 27, 2014. This has created a crisis of power shortfall in Haryana, he said.

He urged the Union Power Minister to intervene in the matter. Chattha  also drew the attention of the Union Minister towards the coal linkage for 2x300 MW DCRTPP, Yamunanagar and 2x600 MW RGTPP, Khedar (Hisar)  power plants from various coal companies  saying that it was 28  lakh tonnes and 47.88 lakh tonnes respectively. The coal linkage is less than the total coal requirement of the power plants, in view of the deteriorated coal quality. Besides poor coal quality, the coal materialization to these power stations has remained less.

The state Power Minister also requested to include more areas under the Restructured Accelerated Power Development and Reform Programme (R-APDRP) to strengthen power distribution system and give base of information technology to the system. In Haryana, presently 36 towns have been selected under part-A and 33 towns under part-B of the RAPDRP.

Chattha also demanded support equal to the additional subsidy of Rs 1191.79 crore provided by the state Government because of failure of the monsoon.

The installed generation capacity in the state has now gone up-to 5300 Mega Watts from 1587 MW in 2004-05. On an average, 1402 lakh units of power per day have been supplied during 2014-15 (up to August) against 578 lakh units in 2004-05. The highest ever-maximum demand of 9152 MW on August 25 and highest power supply of 1929.35 lac units as supplied on August 26 last.
