Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij on Sunday sought help of Central Government to effectively deal with certain health issues especially the cases of Hepatitis-C and Cancer in the State.
Vij, who had called on Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda in New Delhi, urged him to get a study conducted on issues concerning Cancer and Hepatitis-C in the State and help the State by providing mobile vans so as to launch an intensive drive to check the spread of Cancer and Hepatitis- C in the state.
While apprising State Government’s resolve to set up Medical Colleges in each district of Haryana, Vij sought Central assistance to achieve this target. He also expressed concern over the manner in which the cold chain of certain medicines was being maintained.
Vij urged Nadda to devise ways and means or even get a legislation enacted to ensure that the cold chain is not broken because maintenance of cold chain is essential to save precious lives.
The Minister also drew the attention of the Union Minister towards sale of cigarettes and chewing gum containing Nicotine. He said that sale of single cigarette should be banned. Also, though chewing gum containing nicotine is sold in small
pieces with permissible quantity of nicotin, people consume it as not a single piece but in multiples and use it as an intoxicant.
He, therefore, stressed the need to ban nicotine in chewing gums so as to prevent its use by those indulged in consuming drugs.
