Through its Durga Shakti App introduced for women safety, Haryana Police has so far lodged 48 FIRs out of the complaints received, taken 21 preventive action and resolved 497 matters amicably.

Superintendent of Police, Crime Against Women, Manisha Chaudhary said that since its launch, the App has been downloaded by more than 1.38 lakh users till now in Haryana.

Even users of other states such as Punjab, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Rajashtan, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh have also installed the app in their smart phones to ensure safety in case of any emergency or panic situation, she said.

More than 10,000 users have downloaded the app in each district of Gurugram, Faridabad, Sonipat and Karnal, the SP said.

She further said that Police has planned to further increase the outreach of Durga Shakti App and other women’s safety measures in the future.

Durga Shakti app has been developed with an objective to promote women safety and to provide a platform to seek immediate police help in the times of distress. The app is available on both Google and apple play store and can be downloaded for free. Any woman can register on this app and can either call or press alert button in case of an emergency. Upon this, the user’s location coordinates will be immediately sent to Durga Shakti App helpline number and a nearby stationed police team can be dispatched immediately for her help. In addition to this, an SMS is also sent to the emergency contact number listed by the user, she said.

Describing Crime against women as one of the major challenge for the police, Chaudhary said that Police is constantly working to provide safe and secure environment to women and girls in the state.

Senior police officials are regularly visiting schools, colleges, other institutions and residential areas across the state and request girls and women to download the App to ensure their safety.

They are also urged to get this App downloaded for their family members and friends. Efforts are being made to further popularise the App. Over the time, the usage will further increase, she added.

Notably, the Chief Minister Manohar Lal during ‘Ek Aur Sudhar programme’ had launched Durga Shakti App in July last year enabling women to seek help of the Police in case of an emergent situation.
