The four-day strike called by Government roadways employees unions ended on the second day on Tuesday even though a section of the protesting employees claimed the strike was very much on.
Haryana Parliamentary Affairs Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala claimed on Tuesday that the Haryana Roadways Employees’ Coordination Committee has decided to call off the strike after talks with the State Government, which ended early Tuesday morning, were successful in breaking the deadlock.
Haryana Roadways buses could be seen arriving and leaving various bus stands across Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi as bus services were slowly restored.
However, Haryana Roadways Employees Union leader Sarbat Singh Punia said the strike was continuing and that only a section of union leaders agreed to call it off.
Punia said some depots, including Fatehabad, Sirsa, Jhajjar, Jind, Mewat, Hisar and Faridabad did not operate the buses and it had effect on southern and eastern Haryana.
After the meeting, Surjewala said that the State Government has decided to give regular pay scale to all the drivers and conductors appointed after January 1, 2003 from their date of appointment and assuming January 1, 2014 as a fixed date, their salary will be fixed on the basis of the regular pay scale from the date of appointment, ACP and Annual Increment.
On the issue of providing private bus route permit by the Transport Department, the Coordination Committee will give its written suggestions and objections to a committee constituted and Committee will take appropriate decision, the State Government will sympathetically consider all other demands of employees, said Surjewala.
