Haryana Roadways employees on Monday called off their two-day old strike after the State Government agreed to suspend granting 3,519 route permits to private bus operators in the State.
The decision to call off the strike was taken following their talks with State Transport Minister Aftab Ahmed on Monday morning. “We have decided to called off the strike as the State Government has agreed to suspend granting 3,519 route permits to private bus operators”, said Sarbat Singh Punia, president of Haryana Roadways Workers Union.
Around 4,000 roadways employees were protesting since September 6 against the State Government over their move to grant 3,519 route permits to private bus operators across the State.
The employees didn’t allow plying of all the 3,900 buses from different depots or workshops across Haryana for two days, which resulted in loss of approximately Rs 7.8 crore to the State exchequer besides, causing inconvenience to the passengers. Earlier, the Haryana Roadways staff had gone on a four-day strike in January this year.
