Haryana renames 'Routine Immunisation' to 'Essential Immunisation' now

Haryana Government has decided to rename the ‘Routine Immunisation’ programme to ‘Essential Immunisation’.

Under this programme, District Administrations of four districts namely Nuh, Palwal, Gurugram and Rohtak, will ensure 100 per cent vaccination of all children, with the assistance of line departments, said Principal Secretary, Health Department, Amit Jha, during a video conference regarding Essential Immunisation, Intensive Diarrhoea Control Programme (IDCF) and special focus on second round of Phase-4 of Mission Indradhanush.

Jha said the focus would be on preparing due list of head count of children for immunisation. High-risk areas and areas with low immunisation coverage would be identified and micro plan may be developed to cover the area.

Due list prepared by Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) would be checked by Auxillary Nurse Midwives (ANMs) and verified by medical officers. Random checking of due lists would be done by district authorities, he added.

He said that in the state, immunisation services were being delivered through fixed sites such as hospitals, sub-divisional hospitals, community health centres, urban health centres and primary health centres, and outreach immunisation sessions at health sub centres and Anganwadi centres. As per the NFHS (2015-16), full immunisation coverage in Haryana is 62.2 per cent, and 83 per cent as per World Health Oorganisation monitoring (2016). Four districts, namely Ambala, Panchkula, Karnal and Kaithal, have above 90 per cent fully-immunised children, with 97 per cent in Ambala, he added.

Mission Director, National Health Mission, Amneet P. Kumar, said the District Administrations would ensure meticulous planning of vaccination sessions, as it is the key component for efficient and effective execution of the immunisation programme. Effective communication and social mobilisation are needed to generate demand for immunisation services in all districts.
