Haryana refuses to accept Chautala, others in State jails

Haryana Government has refused to transfer INlD chief Om Prakash Chautala, his son Ajay Chautala and 53 other convicts in the JBT teachers’ recruitment scam from Tihar Jail to a jail in Haryana.

In March, Tihar Jail authorities had written a letter seeking the transfer of Chautala along with other convicts in the JBT teachers’ recruitment scam, from Tihar to any jail in Haryana.Tihar authorities had recommended to the Delhi government the transfer of about 60 prisoners, including former Haryana Chief Minister Chautala, his son Ajay Chautala and 53 other convicts in JBT teachers scam to their respective states.

The letter came to Home department and the Home department forwarded it to the DGP (prisons) for his consent.Sources in the Home department of Haryana said the DGP (prisons) had refused to entertain the request of Tihar Jail authorities on the ground that “neither the case was registered in Haryana nor the hearing of the case was held here and even the conviction in the case was pronounced by a Delhi court.”

“Then why should they be shifted in Haryana prisons,” added sources. Prison and Home departments took around five months to decide whether Chautala and others should be allowed to shift here or not. Since the last few weeks, Chautala has been admitted to Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon and is on bail on medical grounds.
