More than 400 NRIs of Haryanvi origin from 33 different countries attended the first Pravasi Haryana Divas began at Gurugram on Tuesday.
Union Minister of State for Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy and Mines, Piyush Goyal exhorted the NRIs to work for sports development in the state.
lauding the sportspersons of Haryana for their outstanding contribution in the field of sports at National and International level, Goyal exhorted the Pravasi Haryanvis to adopt the sportspersons of Haryana from their early age so as to groom them.
The Minister who had his maternal grandparents in Gohana in Haryana, said that the state has made tremendous progress in last five decades.
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar lal said the two days even has been organised to provide a platform to the people of Haryana origin to connect themselves with their roots and provide them an opportunity to contribute in the development process of Haryana.
Noted cricketer Kapil Dev also appreciated the manner in which the sports culture has developed in the state with its sportspersons bringing laurels in national and international sports meets. He said that the daughters of Haryana have done proud to the state in various sports meets.
