Haryana power discoms to adopt spot billing system

Published on:

After being flooded with complaints related to excessive billing, Haryana Power Discoms have decided to adopt spot billing system on monthly basis from November 1 on pilot basis.

With a view to facilitating consumers with more accuracy in the billing system and to streamline the revenue collection, the Power Discoms  — Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam and Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam — will adopt spot billing system, said Nitin Yadav, Managing Director, UHBVN on Thursday.

He said that initially, in the first phase the spot billing would be carried out for domestic and non-domestic categories in the Kalka sub-division under operation circle Ambala. Subsequently, it would be rolled out for all the areas under UHBVN. Presently, the consumers of domestic and non domestic categories with consumption less than 20 KW are billed bi-monthly.

With the implementation of the spot billing, the consumers could analyze  their bill statement more  effectively with better control on their electricity consumption and management of their monthly expenditures, he said. Notably, a large number of complaints were received by the Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission regarding excessive billing and huge arrears levied by the Power Discoms on account of revision of tariff w.e.f April 1, 2015 due to change in tariff slabs.
