Haryana Power Discoms have achieved the distinction of distributing 50 lakh lED bulbs in a short period of four months since the launch of the “Unnat Jyoti by affordable lEDs for All” (UJAlA) Scheme. The scheme was launched to facilitate the consumers, help in cutting down on annual energy consumption in the State, and preserving the environment.

Energy Efficiency Services limited (EESl), a public sector entity under the Union Ministry of Power distributed lED bulbs to domestic consumers in all operation circles of Haryana Discoms at highly discounted price. An official spokesman said that the distribution of 50 lakh lED bulbs in the state had helped in saving more than 62 crore units of power consumption annually, which is sufficient to illuminate 1.2 lakh houses in a year.

The scheme received good response in both rural and urban areas. An lED bulb is 10 times more energy-efficient than the normal bulb. Moreover, lED bulbs are provided to the consumers at much less than the market rates.

At present, the market rate of a common household lED bulb is about Rs 350 whereas, under the scheme, consumers can buy maximum 10 lED bulbs of 9 watt for household purposes at an estimated cost of Rs 75 per lED bulb with a warranty of three years.

The Chief Minister Manohar lal, has expressed satisfaction over the achievement and asked the people to switch over to lED bulbs and help  save both on power consumption and money by way of the reduced bills.
