To put an end to the menace of eve-teasing outside schools upto classes X and XII, Haryana Police will re-launch operation ‘Durga’ in the rural areas of the State.

Women police personnel will be deployed as decoys near schools under operation ‘Durga’ in the State.

“The state Police will re-launch operation ‘Durga’ to curb the incidents of eve-teasing in Haryana,” said BS Sandhu, Haryana Director General of Police, while talking to the mediapersons after holding a meeting with senior police officials on Thursday.

Operation ‘Durga’ was launched by the State Police in April. In less than 20 days, Haryana Police had arrested 15 persons for eve teasing and registered 30 cases under its campaign. Apart from this, 23185 violators were let off after warning, counselling of 822 violators was done in police stations in the presence of their parents and 5880 persons were challaned for violation of traffic rules.

The DGP also said that strict action would be taken against such police personnel as were either hands-in-glove with gangs or were providing information to them. Action is already being taken against some such police personnel, he said.

He also said that a campaign would be launched from July 7 onwards to check cases of chain and purse snatching. Anyone providing information about the snatcher would be given award of up to Rs 1 lakh and the name of the informer would be kept secret, said he.

Sandhu said a special task force would be constituted to deal with drug trafficking, unlawful acts, organised crime, recovery of illegal weapons and stopping gang war in the state. This proposal has been accorded in-principle approval.

The task force would include an officer of Inspector General of Police-level, two Superintendents of Police and four Deputy Superintendents of Police, who would gather information regarding organised crime. This decision in this regard was taken a day before at a meeting under Chief Minister Manohar lal.

The DGP said that a Centralised Police Control Room is being set up in Panchkula where information related to the entire state would be gathered and referred to the police stations concerned, for immediate action.

For this purpose, 600 new PCRs are being purchased which would be operated through GPS and computer. Ambulance and Fire Brigade would also be linked with this control room to deal with any incident at the earliest by reaching the spot, said he.

To meet the shortage of police personnel, Sandhu said that 4,500 constables have been recruited and the recruitment process for 7,000 more police personnel is in progress. Out of these, 6,000 are males and 1,000 are females. All vacant posts would be filled by next year, he added.
