Haryana Government has constituted an investigation team to look into the reasons for failure of police personnel posted at naka set up in Kaithal district to intercept the escaped inmates from Nabha Jail, Patiala in Punjab.

“An investigation team has been constituted by Director General of Police to look into the reasons for failure of police personnel. Disciplinary action will be taken against the erring police personnel,” said Haryana Home Secretary, Ram Niwas.

He said that nakas had been set up in the State to intercept the escaped inmates, including a militant namely Harminder Singh Mintoo, who was arrested from Delhi on Monday. He said that Haryana and Delhi Police had swung into action immediately after getting information in this regard from Punjab.

Strict orders were issued to maintain continuous vigil and prevent any kind of infiltration at State borders and check posts. Red alert was issued in the State the previous day and patrolling on the highways had been increased, said he. Apart from this, malls, markets and other places with heavy footfall are also under surveillance, he added.

Meanwhile, one more abandoned car was found in Kaithal district on Monday after Nabha jailbreak incident. Acting on inputs that some fugitives had passed through Haryana territory, the police remained on maximum alert and a vigorous search was on to nab the accused.

“We are maintaining a high alert. If any of the fugitive is found in Haryana, we will immediately nab him,” said IGP Karnal Range, Subhash Yadav while talking to mediapersons. The car was found abandoned in Pharal village in Kaithal district. Kaithal in Haryana is about 70 km from Nabha in Punjab where the jailbreak incident took place a day before.

“A car has been found in the village,” IGP Yadav said, adding it was suspected to have been used in jailbreak incident.

Another car had been found abandoned on Sunday in Solumajra in Kaithal and is suspected to have been used by prisoners who escaped from the high security Nabha jail.

“Some Punjab Police uniforms and some telephone numbers written on torn pieces of papers had been found from the car which was found in Solumajra. Further investigation in the matter is being conducted by Punjab Police,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police, Kaithal, Tarun Kumar.

The car bore a fake Punjab registration number, Kumar said. Police teams from Punjab were called in for a coordinated investigation in the case. The borders with Patiala and the adjoining borders with Ambala, Kaithal and Jind have already been sealed. 3
