Haryana Police on Monday recovered 18,928 kg of poppy husk stored in 487 gunny bags, having market value of Rs2 crore, from a house near Murtzapur village in district Kurukshertra.
Police has also recovered two country-made pistols, 21 live cartridges, red beacon light, number plates of five vehicles of Punjab and Haryana, weighing machine and packaging material.
A spokesman of Haryana Police said that three suspects involved in smuggling of poppy husk to Haryana, Punjab and nearby areas are being interrogated. The police had received information that huge quantities of narcotics were stored in a house on the Pehowa-Kurukshetra road near Murtzapur village. Acting swiftly on the information, a raid was conducted and the police team found a huge quantity of poppy husk.
The spokesman said that during the investigation, it was found that the house was owned by Richpal Singh, a resident of Patran in Punjab.
He said that four teams of CIA staff conducted raids at seven other places to find any link in this case and many important documents have been recovered.
He said that the police is of the view that the gang would have more than 2-3 members. The number plates of five vehicles recovered from the spot are also being checked and it is being expected that all number plates may be fake and the red beacon light was used by gang members to deceive the police.
