The Haryana Government is all set to introduce moral education as a subject for students of Classes VI to XII in the State.

The subject would be formally launched at a State-level programme in Kurukshetra University on July 5. The programme would be attended by Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki, Himachal Governor, Acharya Dev Vrat, Gita scholar Swami Gyananand, Acharya Balkrishna, Ministers of Central and State Governments and other prominent personalities of the area.

“Extracts from religious texts such as Bhagavad Gita, Quran, the Bible and Guru Granth Sahib has been incorporated in the curriculum of the subject. Different textbooks would be prescribed for each class. The Haryana Government has prepared the curriculum in collaboration with social organisations and educationists,” said Haryana Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma while presiding over a meeting of senior officers of Education and allied departments regarding preparations for the programme.

He also informed that the State Government would honour 100 teachers, including 11 Junior Basic Training (JBT) teachers and subject teachers with the State Award this year.

While interacting with mediapersons on Saturday, he said that before 1996, State Awards used to be conferred on only 11 teachers every year. However, now the number of awards has been increased to about 100 and teachers of all subjects have also been included among the awardees, said he.

Replying to a question about transfer of Post Graduate Teachers (PGT), he said that it is for the first time after about 20 years that nearly 6,000 teachers had been transferred. Under the new Teachers Transfer Policy, the teachers have been asked to give option of three stations as per their choice, and the work of rationalisation was now being carried out, said the Minister.

Responding to another question about Haryana Gauvansh Sanrakshan and Gausamvardhan Act, 2015, he said that after the enactment of this Act, incidents of cow slaughter had decreased. Awareness has increased among the people, especially the youth. Apart from this, Haryana Government is promoting cows of indigenous breeds, he added.
