Haryana MlAs meet Punjab Governor

Amid an escalating row over SYl canal between Punjab and Haryana, BJP legislators from Haryana on Wednesday met Punjab Governor VP Singh Badnore seeking blocking of any move by the Punjab Government to de-notify land acquired nearly four decades ago for the SYl canal project.

Punjab Cabinet had on Tuesday de-notified the land acquired for construction of the SYl canal nearly four decades ago. The BJP legislators led by Haryana party president Subhash Barala demanded that the Governor should not give his assent to the move by the Punjab government to de-notify the land.

Subhash Barala while talking to the mediapersons after the meeting said that the legislators have urged him not to approve any unconstitutional step of the Punjab government on SYl issue against the interests of Haryana.

Stating that Supreme Court had in January 2002 and June 2004, ordered the remaining portion of the SYl canal to be completed, he said that at that time also, Punjab assembly had enacted the Punjab termination of agreements act, annulling all inter-state agreements on sharing Ravi and Beas waters in 2004.

He said that Haryana had been fighting to get its rightful water share from Punjab from past several decades. With Supreme Court’s latest decision in favour of Haryana on SYl issue, the State Government would ensure implementation of the decision, he said.

Barala added that State BJP is monitoring all the activities of Punjab Government on SYl issue and would finalise its action plan during the all party meeting convened on Thursday.

He said that Manohar lal Khatter Government has invited all the parties for the meeting and he was hopeful that all of them would stand united in the interests of the State.
