Haryana Minister denies special treatment to Ram Rahim in jail

After an inmate of Rohtak Sunaria jail housing rape convict Sirsa Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh alleged that the latter is being given a “special treatment” in the prison, Haryana Jails Minister  Krishan lal Panwar on Tuesday denied the allegation.

Refuting the claims made by the jail inmate, the Minister while talking to mediapersons here said Ram Rahim was not being given any VIP treatment in the prison and was living like any other inmate.

Panwar said there was a lot of distance between the barracks and the other prisoners could not even interact with him (Ram Rahim). The inmate is making false claims, said the Minister.

As per the jail manual, Ram Rahim is allowed to meet the visitors for 20 minutes and he is consuming the same food provided to other inmates in the jail, added he.

Rahul Jain, a convict out on bail from Rohtak jail, had claimed that the attitude of jail authorities towards Ram Rahim was different as compared to other prisoners and the self-styled Godman was given special treatment.

Jain had alleged while other prisoners could meet their visitors for just 20 minutes, Ram Rahim’s visitors were being allowed to stay in the premises for two hours. The 50-year-old chief of Dera Sacha Sauda has no work in jail, unlike other prisoners, he had claimed.

The inmate had also said that no one is allowed to go wherever Ram Rahim is kept and all other inmates are locked up whenever Ram Rahim is let out of his cell. He had said that ever since Ram Rahim came to jail, other prisoners are being deprived of basic necessities.

Notably, similar claims were made by another jail inmate a few weeks back.

A special CBI court had sentenced Ram Rahim to 20 years in jail on August 28 after he was convicted of raping two of his disciples in the Dera Sacha Sauda campus in Sirsa.
